Beginning of the Spanish Bit saga

by readersreader on Apr 7, 2008

Juan Garcia, a young Spanish officer, out on patrol in the country called "New Spain" is separated from his patrol and lost. His horse shies from a snake and throws Garcia to the ground causing garcia to hit his head on a large rock. When he wakes up from the fall and blow to the head, he takes his helmet off, sits up, and looks around, to find himself the center of curiosity. A number of savages, as the spanish call them, are squatted on the ground watching the "hair-face" take off his head. Hence his name, given to him by the southern band of the "people", "Heads-off" Garcia's horse is the first horse ever seen by these plains indians, and is called an "elk-dog" by the people. The presence of Garcia and his horse change forever the way the plains indians live. This story is about that change, both to Garcia and to the people of the Southern Band.
