I read Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's "Black Profiles in Courage" and enjoyed that book as well. I like the fact that he researches his information and not just gives an opinion. As an African-American from the Caribbean, I was brought up with and taught by a grandfather, who was an educator. He taught his family and students a lot about achievements and contributions of black people in the world at large. I knew about the Tuskegee Airmen, but had never heard of the 761st Tank battalion. What is positive needs to be heralded and given due recognition; one shouldn't have to wait years after to receive credit where it's due. It's unfortunate that it even has to be about race.
