The Wonderful Wizard of Oz: 100th Anniversary Edition

by , ,

One of the true classics of American literature, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz has stirred the imagination of young and old alike for over four generations. Originally published in 1900, it was the first truly American fairy tale, as Baum crafted a wonderful out of such familiar items as a cornfield scarecrow, a mechanical woodman, and a humbug wizard who used old-fashioned hokum to express that universal theme, "There's no place like home." Follow the adventures of young Dorothy Gale and her dog, Toto, as their Kansas house is swept away by a cyclone and they find themselves in a strange land called Oz. Here she meets the Munchkins and joins the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion on an unforgettable journey to the Emerald City, where lives the all-powered Wizard of Oz. This lavishly produced facsimile of the rare first edition contains all 24 of W. W. Denslow's original color plates, the colorful pictorial binding, and the 130 two-color illustrations that help make The Wonderful Wizard of Oz so special and enduring. Hide synopsis

The Greatest books

by 87books on Sep 16, 2009

The wonderful wizard of oz is an amazing book! i think that baum had an amazing imagination that he shared with people of all ages around the world. i do feel it is a little violent to read to my 3 year old but i think a slightly older child would enjoy reading this book. This is my all time favorite book and i recommend it to everyone, its even better than the movie!

Easy Reading

by HaroldB on Jun 18, 2009

Baum's book is good little tale that might be considered too violent in parts for today's too tender youth. This story should entertain children ages 10-13 especially for children who are encouraged to read books instead of playing electronic games.

The Indisputable Classic

by Zach on Jun 27, 2007

Who does not know the tale of THE WIZARD OF OZ? Who does not know and love Dorothy Gale, the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, Cowardly Lion, and Toto too? Even though the story is now 107 years old, L. Frank Baum's classic tale about the Land of Oz is still one of the most beloved stories of all time. This book is filled with such magic and whismy that it is loved by young and old alike. This edition is probably one of the most beautiful ever printed. To commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the story, it is a fascimile of the first edition with a new gold dust jacket, golden-edged pages, and a green ribbon bookmark. Great addition to any Oz collection or collection of children's literature.
