Ron Clark, 2001 Disney Teacher of the Year, offers 55 lessons and guidelines for living and interacting with others. Based on his experiences working with students in challenging schools, including an elementary school in rural North Carolina, and Harlem, Clark has found that these rules for classroom behavior open the doors to learning like no other. These basic principles, which foster respect for others and respect for self, help to instill curiosity and thoughtfulness in students where before it had been lacking. Covering all aspects of life, in and out of the classroom, Ron Clark shows that with determination and discipline, the children you stick by will be the children you eventually admire. Essential reading for parents, teachers, and anyone who considers life to be a learning experience.

The teacher in the family enjoyed the book and use it often in her classroom.

I fully enjoyed reading Mr. Clark's book of rules. I very much agree with his way of thinking. As an elementary teacher myself, I try to instill much of the same attitudes.

Back to the Basics
The 55 Rules were things that I was taught by my parents. I have tried to teach them to my children. The lack of reinforcement in our public schools and society keeps them from becoming the norm.

This is an excellent book for teachers but also for others who work with children and young adults. It gives the essential 55 rules for getting along well. It helps to develop respect and kindness towards one another. Many of us already perform some of the common courtesies already, but this book offers the rationale behind our actions. Some of these rules may be an eye-opener for some and confirmation for others.
