Although it's just a coincidence that I finished this book yesterday and am writing this review on September 11th, it was written two years ago to commemorate the fifth anniversary of 9-11, by the widow of Todd Beamer, a passenger in the hijacked plane that crashed in a Pennsylvania field.
Based on cell phone calls from the plane, the passengers learned about the other ones, and chose to prevent their plane from reaching its' target. It was the only one of the four hijacked planes where there was no loss of life on the ground.
The story is about Todd and Lisa's life before, during and after the life-changing event. Todd was a Christian who lived his faith until the very end. Lisa doesn't paint him as perfect, just perfect for her. They had two sons, and she was pregnant with their daughter at the time.
When they began dating, he asked her, "Would it be so bad to be my girlfriend?" When he proposed, he asked, "Would it be so bad to be my wife?" She said, "No, but if you're proposing, shouldn't I be saying, 'yes'?"
I remember seeing her being interviewed that first week, once they learned about the bravery of the passengers. She even met the President.
It was a touching story about love and faith. She had sorrow, but not as those who have no hope.
