Overnight is a book about a group of girls named the ?Lucky Seven?, a club that every 6th grade girl wants to belong to. The Lucky Seven is known for being the cool group, or ?Martha?s group.? One of members, Caitlin Donnelley, is having a birthday party where only members are invited. Another member, Gray Rosenfeld, is the quietest of them all and usually the target of the other members? jokes. Marta Van Riet is the leader of the lucky seven, and also the meanest of them all. The other members are Leticia Watkins, Serena Hodgson, Zoe Atacropolis, and Kristy James.
The party begins and Martha can?t but help to pick on Gray. Gray only feels she was invited because Gray and Catlin mothers are friends. Gray is upset that her mother accidently forgot to get her purple sleeping bag; instead she got her father?s camping sleeping bag.
Gray decides to call her mother to get her purple sleeping bag when a lady shows up at the back door saying she is here to get Gray. Gray assumes she is from helping hands- an organization set to help the families of cancer patients because Gray?s mother suffers heart cancer and gets service from them. Gray leaves with this woman in her car and everyone is lead to believe that the Gray was kidnapped. The police are called and a search party is created. But that is only the beginning of the nights events?
Griffin's book has a great intro, and the chapters alternate from the perspective of each of the girls, making the story seem more realistic. This book is great for Teens and Tweens, and shows that being popular isn?t all that.
