Concept of God hidden in a romping fiction

by Rubycanary on Feb 8, 2009

What started out as appearing to be an easy afternoon read, actually ended up having some pretty interesting topics. It's almost a philosophy and religious theory book disguised as a fiction novel. I really enjoyed the characters, and thought the description of God in the book was quite interesting and beautiful. I love the concept of Satan not being a real thing, but being chaos. The force that keeps people from connecting or having empathy and in a perpetual state of fear. The connection between a new world (purgatory) and the world humans live in reminded me a lot of Neil Gaiman's American Gods. A place where it is perfectly normal for the future to change the present, and for people to have powers that no one else has.
