This is a GOOD book!

For anyone new to, or unfamiliar with, the first world war, this is an ideal book. Eisenhower does an excellent job removing the myths and describing the true heroism and acts of bravery of the American fighting man. It is difficult to remember the US was a junior partner in this war. They faced both the German army-thoroughly professional, and the English and French high command-with their own ideas of how the americans should be used. Throughout the narrative, Eisenhower brings to life the common foot soldier and the general officers. Their struggles for identity and recognition; their efforts to master the arts of war practiced for the past three years, and their reactions to what can only be describes as the "horror of war".
