A really helpful Book

by Kim62 on Jul 13, 2007

Torrance has written a very clear and helpful work that gives us a lovely biblical insight into the nature of true worship, one that is consistent with a view of God as triune. He firstly unpacks the Western imbalance in relationship to the whole issue of God being one, verses the biblical picture of being "three in one" and then addresses some of the implications of a non triune view of God when it comes to the offering up of our lives in worship to God. He then encourages us to take seriously Jesus' present relationship of perfect communion with his Father as Son on our behalf. Only Jesus offers up perfect worship to God as Son and as our great high priest, and out of God's grace, we find that we together share in this very life of his. I found this book very encouraging in that it caused me to look more fully on the grace that is found in Jesus as the one in whom and through whom we live.... and to rest right there. A further helpful aspect of this work is that Torrance refers readers to other throughtful Christian writers who have unpacked the gospel of Jesus in ways that are helpful. Please note that Torrance's introduction to the book "The Nature of the Atonement" by John McLeod Campbell is also excellent reading.
