Therapist Michael Gurian explains what a boy really needs--a primary and an extended family, a relationship with mother, father, and mentors, as well as intense support from school and community.Hide synopsis

Gurian explains the needs of boys through stories that we all know, by explaining how other cultures care for their boys, and through the use of scientific evidence. Part I had me enthralled in how men's brains are physiologically different from women's. I now not only have a better understanding of how to raise my son but also of why my husband deals with things so much differently than I do. I haven't gotten to Part III which explains HOW to raise boys, but the background information leading up to that is really interesting... I usually skip the background portions of non-fiction books, but this has me hooked!
I highly recommend this book for all parents, community leaders, teachers, and school administrators. If we all read this book we could have a much better world for all of our children, not just our boys.
