This book is beyond good. Every woman should make it compulsory reading. There is so much information about what is good and right about women's bodies and women's health that most doctors don't seem to understand. It clarified the why of a lot of things for me. Dr. Northrup has a very readable way of imparting important facts. She is clearly a doctor I would like to call mine.

This MD cannot be beaten; she researches all sorts of medicinal / cultural belief & healing systems, and has
an enjoyable sense of humor.
I make sure the women in my family have her books. And men should read them, TOO!
Thank you for reviewing opportunities

I am still in the process of reading this book. It is so full of information I can see myself reviewing the valuable information in this book for the rest of my life. And it is one I will pass down to my own daughter. Women everywhere need to go back into themselves and trust their intuition. The world would be a much nicer place if we can all do this.

Why is a woman a woman?
This book is the most informational easy to read about why a womans world is so much different. This book should be required reading for all couples getting ready for marrage. The ups and downs that come with life can be anticipated and understood. Communication is a funny word because we have to learn from it, instead of using it to get what we want. Reading helps to fill the gaps of the unknown which seem endless as I grow older.
Publishers Weekly, 1995-06-12 Holistic physician Northrup provides women with a practical and empowering guide, relating emotional and psychological conditions at work and home to health problems. (July)
Publishers Weekly, 1994-05-30 This guide goes far beyond standard self-help books, assessing women's health within the context of their work, families and society. The author, a holistic physician specializing in obstetrics and gynecology, seeks to illuminate the basic conditions of women's lives that lead to their health problems. A founder of Women to Women, a clinic that practices within the context of conventional medicine, Northrup, in 17 years of caring for women, was led to take a holistic view of women's health. She cites dramatic and affecting cases of women healing from long-term illnesses, through alternative medical methods such as herbal medicine, dietary changes and relaxation techniques. The book begins with an exploration of how society influences the way in which women think about and care for their bodies. Part two provides a comprehensive description of women's anatomy and includes a list of conditions and concerns from fibroids to hysterectomy. The book's third portion discusses what type of guidance to look for in a health care provider: it is essential, Northrup says, to develop a working partnership with a health care team. Her work is based on the belief that the cultural context of a woman's life affects her mental and physical health. And so, women must learn that their wounding, if any--physical, psychological and spiritual--is part of a larger cultural wound. Northrup's book is as accessible as it is empowering. (June)
