Ex-Library A clean, tight copy bound in library buckram and withdrawn from a college library. Library markings are minimal. Some light pencil markings are present (mostly checkmarks), and there is a light stain on pages 32-33, but no others noted. A decent reading copy of what is clearly a fascinating story.

This is a volume from the Atlantic Monthly/ Little, Brown in-house archives. The top edge is dusty. There is a small label at the base of the spine. The front paste down has a printed label with the logo of the Atlantic Monthly Press tipped in with "published" (March 10, 1934), "at" ($3.00), "no." (296). The dust jacket was removed, trimmed about 3/8 of an inch, folded and glued to the edge of the rear free endpaper. It was easily detached. The end paper shows a line dried glue as does the back of the rear flap of the dj. Nonetheless, the bright dust jacket is in better than good condition. Lillian Wald founded the Henry Street Settlement House on the Lower East Side of New York City to help cope with the poverty, ill health and educational needs of a mostly immigrant population. This book is part memoir, part social history. The text is beautifully complimented by the 16 full-page black and white illustrations of James Daugherty and vignettes in the text. With Index. 348 pp.
