This copy is not only signed by the author Gregory Maguire (who included a wonderful multi-colored doodle of a witch), but it's also signed on the half-title page by eleven of the actors who starred in the San Francisco production of Wicked: The Musical. Actors signatures include Teal Wicks (who played Elphaba the Witch) and Tom McGowan (the Wizard). Maguire's wonderful revisionist retelling of Frank L. Baum's classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and the first volume in The Wicked Years series. Jacket is intact, but shows wear at head and heel of spine panel with some small nicks on the edges of the circular cutout on the front jacket. The copy is clean and square, but for one page nick/fold in the middle of the block. As stated, this copy, although signed, is not a first printing.
I love this story! I had given my paperback copy to my daughter, but later bought both "Son of a Witch" and "Lion Among Men" in hard covers. This book was soooo good!!! I loved every second of it! I really enjoyed trying to connect the dots of this story with The Wizard of Oz. I think Gregory Maguire is amazing and I can't wait to read all of this other work.
I managed to see the musical when it came back to the Orpheum in San Francisco, and it was a lot of fun. Reminded me a lot of Into the Woods. I wasn't that interested in reading the book at the time, but after seeing the musical, it's now on my "to read" list. Haven't heard too many good things about ...
