INSCRIBED on the title page "To Mary", signed, dated February 15, 1963; arrow, presumably the author's, on page 83, indicating a correction of the order of lines in one stanza. First edition, stated first printing. Hardcover, quarter grey cloth over black boards, red & purple titling. Light wear, spine ends lightly bumped; jacket shows some edgewear, short closed tears & associated creasing, spine lightly sunned. Text clean; , 83 pages.

DJ is uncut; lightly ruffled (1/2" slit in top front panel); some soil and rubbing from handling; still colorful and quite intact; now protected in mylar.
Very Good in Good jacket. Signed, Dated and Inscribed by Author Signed, dated, and inscribed by Galway Kinnell to a named individual on the front free endpaper. Text is clean, with no owners' marks, but the head edge of the page block shows a little dust spotting; binding is square and tight; hard cover has three very small, white spots at the top front and modest softening and rubbing at the spine ends, otherwise excellent. The dustjacket has a short, closed tear with accompanying creases and a small, clear drip stain at the top front, two closed, horizontal tears at the spine, another clear stain at the left rear, and several closed edge tears at top and bottom rear, as well as foxing front and back and some tanning at the spine, yet remains overall attractive and is now protected in a clear sleeve.
Very good in a worn dust jacket (the book has the previous owner's name-a poet herself, and marks where a Kinnell poem clipped from a magazine was stapled onto the dedication page. The staple has been removed, but the poem is laid in. Corners slightly... SIGNED by author (or contributor) HC-Prize winning poet's first published book-INSCRIBED on the title page "To.....best wishes, Mt Pleasant, April 18, 1961."

SIGNED, dated, and inscribed ("For Mary and Bill") in green ink by Galway Kinnell with a drawing of a tree and the line, "A tree, like the mind, a bird on every branch, singing." Book has some light staining, as does jacket, which is unclipped and intact. Kinnell's first published book of poetry. 8vo. 83 pp. In protective Mylar.
