Even though there has been a lot of controversy about whether or not Beryl Markham actually wrote this book, I don't care. It is an incredible book, whoever the author is.
Action, adventure, absent any self-aggrandizing posturing, as is the case in many modern recountings of similar events. The author demonstrates an amazing command of language.
Even though I want to share this book w/ my grandchildren, I'm almost glad I discovered it late in life. The writing in every other book I've read would have been compared to this one. It is the only book I have ever "rationed" myself; reading only a few pages at a time, savoring it like a wonderful rich and rare chocolate. I wanted it to last a very long time.
