Marie Corelli, 1855-1924, was an enormously popular British writer of often occult-themed fiction, whose novels such as Ardath, A Romance of Two Worlds, The Sorrows of Satan, The Soul of Lilith, and Ziska, are considered by some to be minor classics of supernatural fiction. Her books had a wide readership-including Gerald Gardner who had four of her novels in his library-and Aleister Crowley, who refered to her in several book reviews. Spine leaned & a bit chafed at edges, spine ends & corners of boards slightly bruised & chafed, page-edges browned, endpaper hinges split (but holding), initials on front pastedown & title-page, blind-stamped name on half-title page, top-corner creases to some pages, else a solid near VG copy (no dust jacket).

Red cloth, black lettering & decoration, 339 pp. Spine ends lightly bumped, moderately cocked, front hinge is broken thru endpapers but firmly attached, a bit of very light soiling on covers & light spotting on front cover, a bit more spotting on back, pages tanned & edges browned. The date, August, 1886, is taken from the Preface. No date appears on the title page and the copyright page is blank. No edition is stated.
