THE ROMAN LEGION LIVES AGAIN

by William on Aug 12, 2011

I read this volume from cover to cover while on a flight to and a flight from Californa. Couldn't stop reading except for coffee, during the flight. Sarrow has gotten everything right from a historical point of view. Have ordered the others in the series and cannot wait to start the next volume, and march with Marco & Cato. Highly recommended

If your standards are high read this

by jere on Jul 27, 2009

I admit I'm a historical novel snob. I read enough to know the difference between a good writer, who sees their role as both a writer and researcher. Mr Scarrow is both. I liked this book and have ordered the others and so far I haven't been disapointed.

Could do better

by Appendistrikus on Aug 2, 2008

The trouble is I 've read O'Brian and Iggledun amongst others and Scarrow just isn't in the same league...he's too verbose for me and some of his plot lines are just so far fetched in terms of any kind of historical credulity - like one of his central characters takes Boudica (yes the legendary) out for a drink to the local tavern....too me it comes over as cheap thrills loosely wrapped up in history.Having said that I am on the third in the series although being rather stranded in France I am desperate for something to read.
