I always admired Coach Wilkinson and the Sooners but wanted Notre Dame to end their streak because I went to high school with Nick Pietrosante who was an All American at ND. This was a great story leading up to see what happened that day. I enjoyed the book.
I was a student at the University of Oklahoma from 1954 to 1958, so I was there when the 47 game winning streak was being built. I knew many of the players and my cousin is mentioned in the book. The book took me back to those days and put the streak in perspective. It provides the backgroud and the highlights of a still unequaled feat. It provides a look at the players and coaches as human being with faults and doubts, yet keeps the focus on what they achieved. It takes one behind the scenes to see the politics and money behind the program. It build the suspense as the streak goes beyond everyone's wildest dreams. In the end the accomplishment becomes both human and larger than any of the humans involved. The book is easy to read and easy to follow. It is both entertaining and informative.
