Good author, but too brief

by Karl D on May 10, 2011

Ian Hogg was Master Gunner of the British Army, and one of the foremost authorities on weapons of the 20th Century, as well as an witty and engaging author. However, this is a rare book of his that I would not recommend. Too many weapons are presented in insufficient space, so there is hardly more than a paragraph about each one. The reader would be better served to consult some of Hogg's more comprehensive studies of weaponry, and he will be richly rewarded. This book is best used as a only a starting point in the study of any particular artillery piece.
