Jack Reacher has a crisis of self-doubt.

by cheathamg on Sep 7, 2012

This is almost as good as the other books in the series. At one point, Reacher does experience a deuce-and-a-half load of self-doubt, and the big reveal is telegraphed way in advance, but still, it is a solid addition to a series that can always be relied upon to leave you saying, "Boy! I enjoyed that." We're not talking great literature. We're just talking about sitting down with a book in our hands and having a good time with a bigger-than-life hero who does what we fantasize about.

If you like action, this has it!

by CaBob on Dec 31, 2011

The book is intense, Reacher is exceedingly logical, often describing his conclusions and the path to them. Oh and did I say he can win any battle with 4 or fewer opponents since he is 6 foot 6 and had 13 years in the military police -- you know capturing special forces or other combat veterans when they go wrong (seldom in my view), but that's the thesis. I think I have bought all of the series so far.

Reacher settles down--maybe

by robroy on May 22, 2010

Beginning in Key West, where Reacher has been working hand-digging swimming pools by day, and as a strip club bouncer by night, Jack finds himself being hunted down by two separate groups. He winds up in NYC, spending quite a lot of time in the World Trade Center (which feels pretty creepy, given the events of Sept.11, 2001) trying to save his old mentor's daughter from a madman who has been thought dead since Vietnam. Nice love story being fulfilled on both Jack and the girl's side, while he collects a few more battle scars along the way. But is our hero really ready to live in the house that Leon Garber has left him, and settle down with his daughter? Time will tell, and of course, if you've started out reading some of the later novels, you already know the answer to that!

Help me find a Jack Reacher replacement!

I've read all of the Jack Reacher books in print (61 Hours is the last one of the series, as I write this), and I'm a total fan of Lee Childs and his tough-guy hero, Jack Reacher. If you're also a fan, have you read a similar series whose here is smart and tough, and whose stories are just as compelling ... Read more
