A group of terrorists has descended on the Executive Mansion, and gained access by means of a violent massacre that has left dozens of innocent bystanders murdered. Through the quick actions of the Secret Service, the president is evacuated to his underground bunker - but not before almost one hundred hostages are taken. While the politicians and the military leaders argue over how to negotiate with the terrorists, one man is sent to break through the barrage of panicked responses and political agendas surrounding the crisis. Mitch Rapp, the CIA's top counterterrorism agent, makes his way into the White House and soon discovers that the president is not as safe as Washington's power elite had thought. And, in a race against time, he makes a chilling discovery that could determine the fate of America - and realizes that the terrorist attack is only the beginning of a master scheme to undermine an entire nation.Read Less

Great storyteller...wonderful detail and action. We get to read the mind of our hero and his foe. The action moves along at a nice clip, the details of the White House put you there. The other charcters are well drawn out, and even when they are killed or die a chapter later, you feel for them or understand them. This is worth reading just for the insight into the White House. An action fan will not be sorry. I enjoyed every minute of "Transfer of Power".

A Genuine Hero
Written in 1999, of course, before 9-11, this book is about the takeover of the White House by terrorists. An interesting point made by a Secret Service agent, is the realization that there is no way to protect against or prevent an airplane loaded with explosives from crashing into the building. This was before the no-fly zone over the White House. This book introduces Anna Rielly, whom Mitch Rapp later marries. She is one of the hostages and they meet when he saves her life. A genuine hero. He almost single-handedly gathers intelligence, takes down the terrorists, and saves the President. A well-told story with a lot of action and suspense.
