Excellent Historical Fiction Book

by Love2teach on Dec 20, 2007

This is a fantastic book to introduce young children (grade 2 and up) to historical fiction. You can use this book as a follow up in teaching about the industrial revolution in America as well as imigration and the problems many families faced. After reading this captivating book with great illustrations you can do a follow up activity by reading letters and diary entries (found on the internet) of orphans who actually rode the orphan trains in the late 1800's. This was a captivating story for my third graders.
