An epic novel which charts the lives & struggles of the Don Cossacks during the Russian Revolution, First World War & Russian Civil War for which the author Mikhail Sholokhov, would eventually win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1965. The first three volumes were wtitten 1925-1932 with the fourth appearing in 1940. The title translates literally as 'The Quiet Don' but the book was published in English as 'And Quiet Flows the Don'.
