I have read dozens of books about Civil War and author Bruce Catton delivers the best reading. His prose is wonderful. It's like poetry and his insight is most enlighting. I am reading all his books but so far this is the best.

Catton was one of the premier historians on the Civil War. I discovered Catton's work on the 100th anniversary celebrations of the Civil War. His writing is crisp, fresh and riveting as he carries the reader along the paths followed by soldiers, politicians and ordinary people of Civil War America
