Dr. Needham's account of the Chinese achievement in science and technology is as one of the great works of the history of science and the hisotry of Chinese civilisation. Based on research of a highly critical quality, the eloguent text is accompanied by hundreds of illustrations. In Volume 1, Needham begins by examining the structure of the Chinese language; he reviews the geography of China and the long history of the Chinese people and discusses the scientific contacts which have occurred throughout the centuries, between Europe and East Asia.

Collectible; Very Good in Very Good jacket. The 1962 2nd printing of Vol. II ("History of Scientific Thought") of Joseph Needham's landmark set. VG (with light wear at the inner hinges--though they're perfectly strong) in a bright, price-clipped, VG dustjacket, with light chipping at the panel edges and mild darkening along the spine. Thick octavo, 696 pgs.
