this is the most readable of all the histories of the battle of the bulge

Toland's writing captures some of the confusion, fear, and anxiety that occurred as the initial attack started. It is accurate in its various engagements though out the 80 mile front. There is a lot of dialogue and while some of it is accurate, its hard to know how much of it true. There are also the stories of a few selected GIs and their trials and tribulations. A criticism is that this written as if this were a screen play, which may be true. Certainly, if you only want to read one book about the Battle of the Bulge this would be a good choice. It is very readable, and accurate in the various engagements. I have been researching this battle because of my father's participation in it. Its a reasonable book, but there are other more detailed writings out there.
