FDR and The New Deal by a New Deal Insider

by Darkman on Apr 12, 2008

This is a superb book written by one of FDR's inner circle, Frances Perkins, published less than 2 years after Roosevelt's death. Ms. Perkins was FDR's Secretary of Labor for his entire presidency and the first female Cabinet member in this country's history. She was a tireless worker for social reform and justice and with this book, provides a behind-the-scenes look at this watershed era. She was a great admirer of Roosevelt, a confidant and either created or helped shaped much New Deal legislation. I consider it essential reading for anyone interested in this remarkable period.
