Includes appendix on the Geology of the region by George Tate. Half brown leather, heavily worn, over pebbled purple cloth; gilt titling and portrait of Roman on front cover. Edges worn & frayed, leather badly scuffed, couple of ink spots on front, general wear; damage to a few page & plate edges including short tears, creases, minor stains; folding charts poorly re-folded with many extra folds, edgewear. Armorial bookplate of Cecil Duncombe inside front cover; minor pencil notation on a few pages. Very Good. Book A history of Hadrian's Wall, and its place in British history. Illustrated with sixty-five plates (collated, missing one), and numerous folding plates. Including chapters on The Military Way, Chesterholm, Naworth Castle and many others. Rev John Collingwood Bruce was a Tyneside author and historian. He co-operated with the author John Stokoe in compiling the hugely important Northumbrian Minstrelsy published in 1882. Condition: In a quarter-calf binding. Externally, rather worn, with loss to the spine, and some rubbing. Wear to the extremities, and joints are starting. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places. Front hinge is tender. Pages have some foxing, and some handling marks. Tape repair to closed tear on page xxi. Overall: GOOD ONLY.
