Okay, the first half is excruciatingly slow I will admit to that. However the second half when the war starts in Boston picks up and moves very fast. I had to stop reading it just before Franklin comes back to the US because it was slow and quite honestly boring, so I put it down for 8 months. ...

A very good rendering of the events and people leading up to the revolution. Now moving on to the second volume, "The Glorious Cause", to complete the series. Also suggest David McCullough's "1776" as a complimentary light reading of events during the same period.
