This is one of the best books I've read to aid in understanding and writing poetry. Mary Oliver's poems are some of the most beautiful I've ever read and she certainly understands the crafting of a poem.

For the beginner. Would not say this treatise is particularly inspiring for the writer. Lays down the rules for the basic craft in a preachy way. An OK book, if this is what you are looking for in a manual.
