Were the Gordons murdered because they'd stolen some valuable new vaccine, or even a dreaded virus? They'd obviously outspent their income. Had they been running drugs? Corey doesn't think so, although an ice-chest missing from their home points to something forbidden. He teams up with Beth Penrose, detective, working her first homicide & their visit to Plum Island reveals only that the FBI & CIA have sanitised the place. Then Corey falls in with Emma Whitehouse, an expert on Captain Kidd's lost treasure which is thought to be buried nearby...PLUM ISLAND is a thrilling novel from an author of consummate page-turning skill. This is the title that knocked John Grisham off the top of the US bestseller lists and held the No.1 spot for five weeks.Read Less

The hunt for the treasure killer...
Another gifted John Corey story by Nelson Demille which takes us to his uncle's home, the summer vacatipn boyhood residence of the Corey family. Suddenly, a biochemist couple are found murdered and John, who is cooperating from several bullet wounds, is ask to help with the investigation by the local police department. Intrigue and hidden agendas ever abound with John's cryptic humor and devious chicanery as he runs into his old nemises from the CIA and/or FBI....
Mr. DeMille is at his best with the John Corey stories.

You can't help but grow fond of the lead character--a narcissistic detective recovering from serious gunshot wounds--who gets caught up in solving the murder of friends. It is a rollercoaster ride to the end as he moves tirelessly to get to the solution. It is akin to an Indiana Jones movie in that the action keeps ahead of you and keeps pulling you along. I found it hard to put down, even though it is a big book. It is the third book of DeMille's I have read, and I would read more.

Excellent and Fun - Must Read
I keep having to buy this book because I give it away so often. Best book I've read in a long time. There are several in the series, but this is the best of the lot.
Other excellent books by the author: The Gold Coast, The General's Daughter, and The Charm School.
