On holiday in Cornwall, Simon, Jane and Barney Drew discover an ancient map in the attic of the Grey House, where they are staying with their mysterious Great-Uncle Merry. They know immediately that it is special. But it is much more than just a map. It is the start of a quest to find a grail, a source of great power that could contain - or resurrect - the powerful, age-old forces of evil in the world. And the Drews are not the only ones searching for it.

Margery Gill. Good in Good, Price Clipped jacket. Book. Tall 12mo. Pp: 252. Illustrated with drawings by Gill. Ex-school library: stamps to ffep and to rear pastedown; pocket removed from rfep; small label to spine. Bump to rear top corner of spine affecting about tthe latter two thirds of the text. About six pages have a few squiggles in ball-point. Dust jacket is little sunned to the spine; quarter-inch vee missing from bottom edge of front panel; small nick to head of spine; light wear to edges. Although ( obviously) not pristine this is still a copy of the hard-to-find true first edition ( appeared a year before the U.S. edition ) of the first volume of Cooper's 'The Dark is Rising' series.
Very Good+ in Very Good+ jacket. True 1st U.S. prt-stated "First American edition, 1966" on copyright page. #1 IN DARK IS RISING series. Rare volume. Book is very good+ with tan cloth (illus by Margery Gill on cover, DJ & in book). Only flaw-1/3 of front free paper has been neatly excised (presumably to delete inscription to prior owner). DJ has faint edgewear, is price-clipped. Overall, a very attractive 1st prt copy.
