A book about not writing a book about D.H.L

by LeoBloom on Jun 25, 2009

Dyer's book about trying to write a book about D.H. Lawrence (and failing) is a huge success. As in all of Dyer's recent quasi-fictional work, the protagonist is Dyer himself, confused, conflicted, feckless, neurotic, hedonistic, depressed, and searching for his purpose. Here he takes the reader through a multitude of false starts, hesitations, and romantic break-ups in his effort to write a monograph on his literary idol. Even for someone like me who isn't particularly impressed with the work of D.H. Lawrence, this book is a joy to read -- as were "Yoga for People Who Can't Be Bothered to Do It" and "Jeff in Venice."
