Very Good. Light shelf wear, binding tight, pages clean and free of marks. The book, 'Our Journey in the Valley of Tears, ' is an account of the lives of the late Drs. Andrzej and Karolina Jus. Self-published in 1991 and printed at the University of Toronto Press, it covers Karolina's early years in a Polish environment increasingly hostile to Jews; their marriage in Poland in the late 1930s; their surviving the Holocaust by being hidden in a village in southern Poland by Andrzej's family, with the aid of documents forged in a Catholic monastery to the effect that she was a Gentile; his becoming after the War the head of the largest academic psychiatric clinic in Poland; their eventual move to Canada around 1970, fleeing the nationalistic tendencies of communist Poland; and their subsequent lives as academics and researchers in Quebec. The Jus's purpose in writing the book was to help perpetuate the memory of the Holocaust, to commemorate the personal story of her parents and sister, who were killed by the Nazis, and of her husband's family, who saved the young married couple, as well as to express their belief that only through education and through resistance to prejudice of all kinds could humanity avoid similar horrors.
Very slight creasing; VG or better. 8vo. Illustrated wraps. pp [viii], 307. Long signed presentation in French from Karolina Jus to Yehudi Menuhin on the Holocaust, Russian tragedies, Poland, etc. ISBN0969525400.
