This book is designed to initiate the reader into a deep, living relationship with God. Written by an acknowledged spiritual master, the book moves beyond "discursive meditation and particular acts to the intuitive level of contemplation." Keating gives an overview of the history of contemplative prayer in the Christian tradition, and step-by-step guidance in the method of centering prayer. Special attention is paid to the role of the Sacred Word, Christian growth and transformation, and active prayer. The book ends with an explicit treatment of the contemplative dimension of the gospel. Open Mind, Open Heart will take readers into a world where God can do anything, into a realm of the greatest adventure--"Where one is open to the Infinite and hence to infinite possibilities."

Briefly, I love Open Mind Open Heart by Thomas Keating. I've never read a book so refreshing and informative, except perhaps Prayer by Richard Foster. I don't know how to express how I feel about Keating's writing except that he seems to speak my language. Pretty personal I suppose and maybe not too helpful in a book review. I learned a lot about centering prayer as he calls it. I've been practicing it for two years now, almost daily, and recently purchased Invitation to Love by Keating because I loved OMOH so much.

Not What I expected
I am in the midst of reading several books by Father Keating and find him to be a great theological thinker. He expresses views beyond traditional beliefs. I like his writings but this book did not hold my attention as well as some of the others.
