I cook a lot and bake a lot. I have a family and am interested in better, more nourishing food for our health and satisfaction. This cookbook is very informative and well written. Recipes use (mostly) readily accessable items that we are already accustomed to working with and offers recipes for more outgoing cooks (ie:kombucha which requires getting a starter culture before the recipe can begin). This is the way our ancestors use to cook and preserve food to help maximize its vitality. Our family cooks from this book every week and now make our own chicken stock weekly too. I do think this cookbook needs to be taken in stride though. We don't all live on farms and do manual labor all day, so the high-fat dairy and meat items could be too much if you are eating like this all the time. Our family certainly feels more nourished since this book has entered our lives.
I bought this when I saw it as recommended reading in another book I read. I put my "raw-milk-how-do-we-can-things" daughters onto it. We all have our own copies and are making all the delightful recipes ourselves instead of purchasing at expensive whole food stores now. This book is so well researched. Outlets to purchase ingredients are included. There are sidebars that are so interesting that you almost have an overload of info. But the book is easy reading, you don't need a doctorate to understand it and start living better. I was amazed at how well put together this book is. It took a lot of planning to make it understandable, reasonable, and easy to use. I won't even risk loaning mine out. Go buy your own!
The ideas that are presented in this book may be contrary to current popular opinion, but they make SO much sense when you consider that this is how people have been eating all over the world for centuries!...and they didn't die from obesity, heart disease, or diabetes!
