Strong's Exhaustive Concordance

This is such a valuable tool for getting a better understanding of the meanings hidden within the Bible. If guided by the Holy Spirit, this can be of great use to know more perfectly what God is declaring in His Word. This can be used as a reference tool, and word study aid, a cross reference tool and more. In the Strong's lexicon, under each entry (after the colon and the dash), it gives the various ways the KJV translates the original word, which in turn can be looked up individually and examined in context to give "flavor" to the meanings of these original words. With the lexicon, a general definition is given as well, but it is better to examine the other places where the word is used to help understand it as the Bible utilizes the word (although the lexcon's general definition seems to do just that, looking them up on your own seems to give more meaning to them). For instance, take the model prayer Jesus taught the disciples. In the Luke account, chapter eleven verse four, there is a teaching that we should pray that the Father would forgive us our sins, and that we also forgive every one that is "indebted" to us. If you compare that to Romans 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. Notice from the Strong's, that the word "indebted" and "own" have the same Strong's number reference. This shows us that by failing to love our neighbor as ourself, we are indebted and stand in need of forgiveness. This is the way we are indebted. Not that we should be deficient in our actions of love, but that we should strive to fulfill this commandment, which is the second greatest of all commandments. Another example using the same Strong's number is found on the comparison of husbands and wives to Christ and the church in Ephesians ch.5. Eph 5:28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. By this it introduces the foreshadowing that the creation of mankind points to Christ and the church (see verses 30-32), but begins with these comparisons by means of commandments. Of the which as listed above, the word "ought" here is of the same Strong's number as "own", and "indebted". By this we see the strength of the commandment for husbands to love their wives, and this parabolically points to the mystical relationship of Christ and the church, and the security we have in Him to never leave us, nor forsake us. Praise God for such great salvation. With this method and others, the Strong's Concordance is very helpful to personal Bible studies of all levels. This is highly recommended and I encourage any one who would open the Bible to utilize this resource. There are online versions and computer versions, but by having the book version, a person can use it like a cross reference by using the various words translated to English (for you can see them listed in the English alphabetical lists of the words). Praise God for the godly men of old. (tutorials of those sites) There is a tutorial DVD for the Strong's Concordance available from Shepherd's Chapel and can be obtained through the mail by request at: (800) 643-4645 (note that this tutorial is to teach the benefits and methods of use for the Strong's Concordance, and does not detail particular doctrine or denominational teachings)
