An Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, novel 'Something in the look on my face must have frightened him, because his eyes widened, and I saw something like human fear cross his reptilian face.' I'm Anita Blake and I kill monsters. The last thing I want to think about though when I get home after a night out is work. But someone has abducted a wereleopard from the Narcissus in Chains club. It's a dark world out there with shapeshifter crime and were-creature struggles. I may not have seen Jean-Claude, the Vampire Master of the City, for six months, but I need his help now, whatever the consequences. Someone is targeting the lycanthropes and we have to save them.

Laurell K. Hamilton has another hit with "Narcissus in Chains"! This is a continuing series featuring Anita Blake, vampire executioner. Ms. Hamilton is fleshing out her characters more with each story. Her books are hard to put down, but for those of you who have not read any as yet..she does quite a bit of erotica in between her pages.

Unbelievably realistic and ...
This is the first book by this author I have read and I have only one regret!! I didn't start with the first one in the series. It stands alone all by itself but I kept feeling as if I walked into a party late and although I enjoy myself I am aware of something missing. It is a love story and a story about survival in all its forms. It has twists and turns that are so unexpected I had to catch my breath in a couple of places. It is not a traditional vampire book, or even a traditional lycanthrope novel. It is truly unique. The characters are people you either love to enjoy or love to hate, but no wishy washy feelings in this book.

Does she do it again?
Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake Series is so good that I am buying all the books in hardback to replace my paperback copies. I've read them so often that I wear them out. That being said. I am facinated with the Power base that is being built by Anita, Richard and Jean Claude. Richard, Anita and Jean Claude have come together to meld their power into one unit allowing them to have the potential to be an incredibly powerful force. The only thing that has the potential to tear them apart, much less kill them all is Richard. However; Anita is beginning to grow up and maybe beginning to realize that life is not what you want, but what you make of it. She also needs to learn to trust in herself and the good inside her. She is basically a good person that could be the driving force in the relationship. Anita will save the people that she see's as belonging to her and if she can't save them she will make sure it can't happen to others. She is becoming stonger. Richard is still the same- making the reader wonder if he wants some cheese and crackers with his whine. He needs to come to terms with real life and not the fairie tale that he wants it to be. He needs to realize that he could ruin them all and not just himself with his selfish ways. Jean Claude is beginning to learn how to deal with Anita and keep his relationship alive. I believe that he will learn how to motivate Anita without causing her undue stress and cause her to weigh the options of good vs. evil. She already knows what's good and what's evil. New Characters are added, Micha and his crew enter Anita's life and begin to play important parts in her daily life. The Leopard pard will become stronger with Micah and Anita backing them. Overall this is an enjoyable book and I will continue to read the series for as long as Ms. Hamilton is willing to write them with such excellenct Characters that we can invest our time in.

If you like the Anita Blake series, this is a good one. More action, I liked it alot !!!
Publishers Weekly, 2001-09-17 Bestseller Hamilton's Anita Blake, police consultant, executioner, necromancer, private eye and wereleopard protector, returns in her amorous 10th adventure, driven more by conflicting desires for the lovers she neglected in her last outing, Obsidian Butterfly (2000), than by the urge to solve any mystery. Once again, in a world where vampires and werecreatures are protected by law, Blake attempts to resolve her libido's constant crisis. Plunged into the netherworld of a leather D/S (dominant/submissive) bar, Narcissus in Chains, by the abduction of one of her inherited wereleopards, Blake finds herself deep into shapeshifter politics and a were creature power struggle that is all a metaphor for her own inner struggle. Whom should she choose werewolf Richard or vampire Jean-Claude? Or should she take a new lover? Who cares? Blake is eventually infected by the "ardeur" from the vampire clan and tinged with shapeshifting abilities from the were clan. As she becomes more like the fantastic creatures she protects or kills, she, alas, doesn't get any more interesting as a character. Her obsessions with lust serve mainly to overwhelm a rickety plot. Blake needs to put her clothes back on and get back to work. Too much flesh and not enough plot leads to the old but so true saying, "Less is more." (Oct. 9) Forecast: With a 15-city author tour and 100,000 first printing, this should be as successful saleswise as previous books in the series. Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
