The mummies of Ueruemchi

by Sibs55 on Nov 19, 2009

This is a wonderful book about the Cherchen finds and I would especially recommend this book if you interested in prehistoric textiles - what a wonder ful insight. I am currently only half-way through this book, but find it hard to put down. Very highly recommended

Xinjiang Mummies

by Marty76 on Jan 25, 2008

Dr. Barber weaves (she is a textile expert) an in-depth investigation into the history and life of tall, Caucasian mummies in the Tarim Basis on far-western China. The mummies date from 2000-4000 BC. The Chinese did not come into this area until about 200 BC. I travelled to Urumchi in May, 2000 to see them. They had just been put into a museum and no one was allowed to enter yet. I came back in April 2007, but they had built a new museum to open May 1. My plane left April 30. I gave this book to my children for Christmas so they could share in my excitement.
