I, however, was not born until a few years after this book was written and I certainly did not become Roman Catholic for almost another three decades. This book lays out how I have always known the Roman Catholic church to be: a little instituional, communal, a lot sacramental, a little be preachy, and mostly, very serving. Perhaps the Roman Catholic church is the way it is because of Dulles' influence. I think that Cardinal Dulles is fair and objective in his evaluation of models. I only lacked the understanding of what the Roman Catholic church was ever like before this book was written.
