This is a non-mathematical, qualitative treatment of materials science for engineering students. It features balanced coverage of metals, polymers and ceramics as well as sections on modern composite materials. It discusses the relationship between the structural elements of these materials and their properties. The book stresses mechanical behavior but treats corrosion, electrical, thermal, magnetic and optical properties as well. In addition, the book uses both English and SI units, and taxonomies where needed to help students establish organizational relationships.

Check the Edition
Callister is a good introduction to Materials Science. Just make sure you get the correct edition if you are buying it for a class. The cover shown is for the 7th edition (which is the current edition), but the edition you are buying is the 5th edition.
