If you are an Art Historian or just interested in art you must read this book. Albrecht Durer was one of the greats and he changed the way things were.

While many of Panofsky's methodologies have fallen out of favor among art historians, his seminal monograph on the artist who was one of the greatest self-portraitists of the Renaissance, and among the greatest print artists of all time, still has much to recommend it. Joseph Leo Koerner's "Moment of Self-Portraiture in the German Renaissance" surpasses Panofsky's monograph in many ways, but could not have been written without it. A terrific introduction to the life and work of one of the first "artists" in the modern sense of the word.
