UNUSED, LIKE NEW, NOT EX-LIBRARY, 570 pages. As the British fight a desperate battle against the German forces in Egypt, Guy and Harriet Pringle are involved in their personal struggle with their marriage.
This is one of the darkest books that I have ever read. It drips with death and sorrow and over it all there is Guy Pringle; completely oblivious to the world outside of English literature and far leftist politics. The last line of the book is one that I will never forget. As Simon Boulderstone is leaving Egypt, he looks back at the land and says "Not a lucky place."
