John Barth masterfully engages the present, the past, the characters (Sindbad, Scheherazade, etc.) from 1001 Arabian Nights, blends harem escapade, fabulous myth, and post modern deconstruction in this semi-demi-autobiographical fiction. Somebody is the hero of his own story... If you are not the hero of your own story... what kind of story would that be???
