Key West history

by maggiem on May 14, 2009

Browne does a creditable job of presenting the history of Key West from early days to just after the turn of the 20th century. The major fault with the book is that he shows his bias for southern supporters and therefore fails to cover some of the individuals who played a key role in the town apparently because they supported the Union in the War Between the States. Otherwise the book is an account of Key West in earlier times though it lacks an an even-handed telling of some critical events and fails to accurately cover some important people in the history of Key West. His bias reveals him as a politician not a true historian as he has managed to all but obliterate details on political rivals who were also civic leaders in this early community.
