Pan Not Panned

by ReadsConstantly on May 27, 2010

My daughter shared this book with me when she was visiting and I loved it so much I had to have my own copy. There is a lot of deep 'stuff' in this book; a book written humorously and insightfully, bringing out so many things to have to 'think about.' I thoroughly enjoyed it and have attempted to read many others of his works. This one, though, seems to stand out in my opinion. Maybe the way he writes in each is too similar and becomes tedious before he gets to the story. This one had everything! Gods, immortality, time travel...and lots of fun. I have actually recommended it to several friends in my book club, though I didn't choose it for our group since I had already read it. If you are into things that are intriguing and thought-provoking, a little 'out of the ordinary,' then this book is for you! Tom Robbins reminds me a little of Douglas Adams (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe) and Jasper Fforde (Thursday Next novels). He is 'out there' and fun to follow into the bizarre and unfathomable! ;o)

Like all Tom Robbins literature...

...this book was no exception in the entertainment arena. It's hard to beat his bizarre characters. One of the few writers that gets women....big plus in my book!

Absolutely delightful! an all-time favorite

This is my favorite Robbins, could be my favorite book ever (if I had to choose one). Not just funny, charming, tantalizing: it affected my thinking of eternal matters, introduced me painlessly to the Book of the Dead, gave me things to strive for (I once felt I managed the continuous figure-8 breath - briefly, of course). Even knowing that he was just spinning a tale, I remember realizing that for years I assumed the prescription for not aging would work, if one could just know all the details. Sweet, savory, haunting

Very refreshing and fun reading

by Jossy on Oct 25, 2007

I had read Skinny Legs and All from Tom Robbins before and I thought it was great and very different to other paperbacks too. But this one is definitely better. The twists of the story and specially how unconventional the characters are makes for a very good reading. I love how he describes the sexual scenes and tensions.

This book has made me several friends, mostly because anyone I see reading it I start to talk to because it is one of the best books written. Funny, sexy, thoughtful, quirky, all the best you expect from Tom Robbins is packed into this tale that I wont even begin to describe, just buy it read it and pass it along
