Near Fine. No Jacket. Book A clean, tight edition of this rare book. No dj, but boards retain the gilt design; spine is sunned and gilt does suffer there. Corners and spine are lightly bumped. A well-preserved edition.
First British edition, and the first of his books to be published in Britain. Originally published in 1924 in Paris by Three Mountains Press in an edition of only 170 copies, then revised and enlarged for the 1925 Boni & Liveright edition. Purportedly the same contents as the 1925 Boni & Liveright edition, though Grissom notes variations in 136 readings between the two editions, of which 44 are "substansive"--which may be explained by the fact that Boni refused to sell Cape sheets, so Cape printed the sheets for the book themselves. In the first-issue binding of gilt-lettered green cloth measuring 195mm tall, versus the second-issue in blue cloth and 198.5mm tall [Grissom A.3.2. a]. The book is about fine with only faint offsets near hinges on endpapers; in about very good dust jacket with tiny chips on corners, spine ends chipped 3 or 4 mm, and spine darkened a bit. Still, a very nice copy in first-issue cloth and in the scarce jacket.
Octavo. Original blue cloth, titles to spine in white. With the dust jacket. Spine a little rolled, repaired tears to pages 243/44 and 245/46. An excellent copy in the lightly rubbed jacket with a short closed tear at the base of the spine panel. First English edition, first impression. Originally published in the US in the previous year.
