It would be difficult to think of any single volume that covers such a period of time in such a practical form.

It is an excellent book, but there are a few more sites that have been found since the book was written. Professor Ekrem Akurgal has been called the doyen of Turkish archaeology and this book really proves it. It gives great detail of the sites and the various civilizations that passed though them. The photographs are excellent too.
