Publisher's gilt-stamped yellow cloth, endpaper maps; dust jacket with b/w photo-illustration of Michener and Vavra on the rear panel. They appear together again, both of them much aged, in an original photograph tipped-onto the verso of the front fly-leaf. Vavra's inscription on the facing page reads: "For Robert--The photo of JM and me was taken not long before he died, age 90. The one on the back of this book was taken in Pamplona the year 'Iberia' was published--how fortunate I was to have known him. All best, Robert (Vavra), June 14, 2003." A unique association copy, fine, in jacket with faint water-stain at top edge of front panel, and some creasing, closed tears, and chips along the edges--presents nicely in mylar.
