The story takes a while to get going but it's well worth it by the end. The plot is very 1930's but plausable.
A good example of the Golden Age. Carr is a master.

Gideon Fell's debut
The first of Carr's novels to feature amateur detective Gideon Fell is a thoroughly enjoyable read. Centering on a murder associated with an old family curse, this novel blends gothic horror with a puzzling golden-age mystery to produce a great read.
